Adult Degenerative Spinal disease from C2 to Sacroiliac Joints
I have a particular interest, and extensive experience, in the world of motion preservation including cervical and lumbar disc replacement, dynamic lumbar stabilisation and interspinous devices. I am an experienced anterior and lateral access surgeon with 20 years experience. Recent developments in my practice have included minimal access lumbar fusion and sacroiliac joint fusion. I have a holistic approach to spinal degenerative care from using a network of skilled physiotherapists and physical trainers, to providing an injection/rhizolysis service and ultimately surgery if indicated.
Biographical Information
I am a graduate of University College, London. I received my post graduate training in Nottingham, Leicester and Leeds, completing my specialist spinal training as a fellow at the Nottingham spinal unit. I was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a spinal interest at Warrington and Halton Hospitals in 1996. Over the subsequent years I have ceased to perform general orthopaedic surgery and trauma and been a dedicated spinal surgeon for the last 10 years. The team grew to 4 spinal surgeons plus a staff grade and 3 physio specialists before joining forces with the Walton Centre and Liverpool Royal Infirmary as part of the new Cheshire and Mersey spinal service. Throughout I have maintained a keen interest in dynamic solutions to spinal degenerative change working with industry in the fields of disc arthroplasty, interspinous technologies and pedicle based dynamic spinal stabilisation. I have presented in the US, Europe and Asia as well as running cadaver training courses in the UK, Europe and the US.
