The British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS) is inviting applications from trainee members to join the Trainee Sub-Committee.

If you are a resident doctor with an interest in spinal surgery, we encourage you to consider applying. If you are a trainer, supervisor or consultant colleague, please share this opportunity with resident doctors who you think would benefit from becoming involved with BASS.

The Sub-Committee will support the BASS Trainee Representative in representing the interests of spinal surgery trainees across the UK. It will help identify trainee priorities, promote educational and research opportunities, encourage engagement with BASS, and support initiatives that benefit the wider trainee community.

Roles available

Applications are invited for three roles:

Education Representative
Supporting the promotion of educational opportunities and providing a trainee perspective on educational needs and activities within BASS.

Research Representative
Helping to promote research opportunities, encourage trainee participation and collaboration, and represent trainee perspectives on research-related matters.

Resident Doctor Engagement Representative
Helping to strengthen communication and engagement with resident doctors interested in spinal surgery, promote opportunities available through BASS, and ensure trainee views are heard.

We welcome applications from resident doctors at all stages of training and from both Trauma & Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery backgrounds. We are keen to establish a Sub-Committee that reflects the breadth, diversity and geographical representation of the UK spine training community.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted using the online application form: Apply to join the BASS Trainee Sub-Committee

Applications will be reviewed by the BASS Trainee Representative, with support from members of the BASS Executive Committee where appropriate. Selection will take into account applicants' motivation, relevant experience and commitment to the role, alongside achieving balanced representation across training grades, specialties and regions.
